7/20 Sermon Recap:

  • Pastor Suzanne talked about the word “redemption” (apolytrōsis), which means “the act of freeing someone from bondage, slavery, or captivity.” She reminded us that God gave us a picture of this redemption in the story of the Exodus.
  • She then talked us through a metaphor to help us understand what Jesus did for us: irrevocably opening the doors of a prison.
  • Though this freedom is a wonderful gift, we sometimes get comfortable in our prisons, which make it hard for us to take the tangible steps out.
  • Following Jesus out of our prisons into freedom is a life-long journey.

Reflection Questions:

  • Today, would you describe yourself as dwelling inside or outside the prison of sin?
  • What attracts you to old patterns of sin and bondage? Ask Jesus to help you live in the redemption he has won for you.

  • What is one area where you want to experience more freedom in Christ?

As a response of praise, listen to and sing along to this song by Kim Walker-Smith.
